As teachers, we love being in control. However, there is a downside to keeping all the control in our hands, it’s because we end up making all the decisions. Our job is to create independent thinkers who can make decisions for themselves so that as adults they can use their initiative and make good choices. If we don’t give them this opportunity as children, how are they going to be able to do this as adults?
Take a look below to give you an idea of the decisions we allow ourchildren to make.
Looks a little one sided to me. Of course our classrooms will vary depending on the teacher and students. But if you can give yourself a goal of letting the students have more opportunities to make decisions for themselves, the more independent they will become.
Have a great week!
